ReplyDeleteHave been waiting for your updates :) Just got a brompton myself and want to tour Japan too!!! Last 2 times, I walked and felt envious of all the riders.
Can I ask how did you research the places to go and stay in? I really love towns with rivers that run through them...
wheelosopher.com went last year but his was really hard-core; camping and stuff. I am the comfort type :D I want onsen!!!
Did you feel safe leaving the bikes in the open? I imagine if I needed to visit a temple, etc, will need a place to park the bike. Did you try to put your bike in the public lockers? but I guess it is not always available.
Thanks for sharing!!!
sorry to keep u waiting for my posting. Thanks for visiting. :)
ReplyDeletesome times there are many things to-do so gotto prioritize.
Yeah ! Brompton is good choice !! its really portable !! alternative is
Flamingo foldie.
actually, there are a lot of info regarding places of interest in japan.
usually divided by region and area. depends on what u wanna see,
just google for them. i also have soft copies & print versions of
googe maps that i need. some maps can be obtain there..free for tourist.
for accommodation, i go for budget hotels and Minshuku.
the main ones for my trip is Toyoko Inns & K's House.
u'll need credit card to confirm ur bookings tho.
esp for K's House, if u dun book in advance, surely no
rooms cos they are a popular choice for westerners.
ya. this wheelosopher guy is more hardcore type. i also read
blog. i am like u. prefer spend a bit more and stay in at
least a minshuku. if u going for Onsen, its going to cost!
at least 10k Yen per night. and i hope u can cope with Japanese
language, it helps a lot!
generally it is pretty safe to park bikes outside. just choose a
place with more pple and use a cheap lock. for temples, there is
always some guy near the entrance. they'll keep lookout. few
japanese will risk their reputation to steal bikes. one rule is
always have the bike lock near to u unless someone eg.. police guy
is ard there to be deterrent.
lockers are usually at train stations only. and it will cost. do not
leave ur bike in there for more than 3 days else it will be gone.
the train staff regularly clean out lockers. i am sure u can retrieve
it from them but it will be a hassle and maybe a charge/fee as well.
